Build capability, Drive Performance

High-performance organizations around the world have achieved demonstrable, sustainable business results with CMMI®.

What is CMMI?

For 30+ years, high-performing organizations have achieved clear, sustainable business results with ISACA®’s CMMI® maturity models. Originally created for the U.S. Department of Defense to assess the quality and capability of their software contractors, ISACA’s CMMI models have expanded beyond software engineering to help organizations around the world, in any industry, understand their current level of capability and performance and offer a guide to optimize business results.

Our integrated CMMI product suite provides best practices that enable organizations to improve performance of their key capabilities, providing a clear roadmap for building, improving, and benchmarking capability.

The CMMI Ecosystem

The success of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) model relies on the synergistic relationship among ISACA, trusted partners and valued customers. This ecosystem is essential in delivering trained professionals who advocate for continuous improvement initiatives globally.

  • ISACA/CMMI Governance

    Goverance

ISACA owns and continually improves the CMMI model and authorizes partner organizations around the world to leverage the CMMI intellectual property to deliver CMMI appraisals and conduct official CMMI training. ISACA also performs quality reviews and audits of services delivered by authorized partners.

  • Organizations Requiring CMMI

    Organizations Requiring CMMI

  • Organizations Using CMMI

    Organizations Using CMMI

An organization is using CMMI to:

    • Improve business performance and/or
    • Secure contracts that require CMMI
These goals are achieved by leveraging the CMMI model and working with a CMMI Partner (see below).

  • CMMI Partner Organizations

    Partner Organzations

A CMMI Partner Organization is a company that has licensed with ISACA to deliver CMMI services to end-user organizations looking to implement CMMI to achieve their business goals.

For a Partner Organization to deliver official CMMI services, they need to sponsor certified individuals who have been trained and certified in delivering high-quality appraisal and training services.

  • Partner-Sponsored Individuals

    Partner-Sponsored Individuals

CMMI Partner-Sponsored Individuals consist of Certified CMMI Lead Appraisers and Certified CMMI Instructors who have been highly trained to deliver appraisal and training services under the umbrella of one or more Partner Organizations. They are highly experienced in CMMI process improvement. Both roles are certified and governed by a Code of Conduct set by ISACA.

Lead Appraisers help identify improvement opportunities, drive the CMMI appraisal for organizations through the planning and preparation process and determine the organization's performance capability or process maturity level.

Instructors educate CMMI users through CMMI courses to successfully achieve learning objectives and/or certifications.

  • Non-Sponsored Roles

    Non-Sponsored Roles

Here are other roles in the CMMI ecosystem that are not necessarily affiliated with a CMMI Partner:

Registered Interpreters support CMMI appraisal or course activities with translation services.

CMMI Associates are committed to excellence in capability improvement and can connect the CMMI Model and appraisal process with business value and use the model as a tool for improving performance. They can participate in a CMMI Appraisal as an Appraisal Team Member and are certified by ISACA performance improvement initiatives, provide organizational roadmaps and lead ongoing organizational change efforts.

CMMI Professionals are experienced process, performance and quality individuals who coach organizations on performance improvement initiatives, provide organizational roadmaps and lead ongoing organizational change efforts. A CMMI Professional has achieved CMMI Associate status already and is certified by ISACA.

Consultants guide organizations to create a performance improvement program to help it meet strategic business objectives. ISACA does not train, certify or otherwise vet CMMI consultants at this time.

The Model

ISACA’s CMMI model is a proven set of best practices organized by critical business capabilities which improve business performance. It is designed to be understandable, accessible, flexible, and integrate with other methodologies such as agile.

ISACA’s CMMI Solutions include:

The Appraisal

A CMMI Appraisal helps to identify the strengths and weaknesses of an organization’s processes and to examine how closely the processes relate to CMMI best practices. It provides reliable, clear, consistent, and actionable focus on performance improvements that will have the most impact on the business and help build and improve capability.

The appraisal allows organizations to identify and prioritize business improvement efforts. Earning a benchmark maturity level or a capability level achievement can prove a depth of quality and professionalism to customers and business partners!
